Amanda Wheeler is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses. She received her master’s degree in nursing – clinical systems management from Excelsior College in Albany, NY, and a post-master’s certificate in family nurse practitioner from Sage College in Albany, NY. Amanda completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Excelsior College and her associate’s degree in nursing from Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. She also has a national certification in electronic fetal monitoring and inpatient obstetric nursing. Amanda worked in labor and delivery for nine years at a local hospital before becoming a nurse practitioner. She helped care for high-risk obstetric patients in the area, but she also loves low-risk obstetrics and helping make her patients’ pregnancy course unforgettable.

Amanda always loved caring for people and wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, and nursing allows her to do just that. As she advanced through her career, she decided she wanted to make an even greater impact and offer exceptional patient care. Amanda’s favorite part of being a nurse practitioner is her patients. She loves learning about them and from them. Every patient brings something new, and Amanda loves interacting with them and their families.

When caring for patients, Amanda believes looking at the whole picture and listening to their needs and what is important to them is key for quality care. She loves women’s health and strives to provide the best care to obstetrics and gynecology populations. As a nurse practitioner, Amanda wants every person to feel empowered to make their own medical decisions and feel comfortable with those decisions. What brings her the most satisfaction professionally is making a difference in her patients’ lives and continuing to advance her knowledge and skill set.

Amanda grew up in Latham, NY, and is a graduate of Shaker High School. She’s married and has two daughters who keep her on her toes. In her not-so-free time, she enjoys baking, making her own vanilla, listening to audiobooks, and caring for her unexpected flock of chickens.
